Very welcome to the Discover DeCrypt Blog! We are very excited to share more on the project and the people behind the project via this blog. We will try to give you a look behind the scenes of this amazing heritage and community project.
A little bit about the project for those not familiar (also see our website and social media. Plus we have a monthly e-newsletter if you’re interested!). Discover DeCrypt is the project that regenerates the medieval St Mary de Crypt Church and adjacent Old Crypt Schoolroom in Southgate Street, Gloucester, UK. We are in the middle of the building works required to repair the buildings and include necessary facilities, such as underfloor heating, toilets, lift, to make the buildings fit for use and fully accessible. We will reopen in March 2019 as a community hub, cultural centre and heritage attraction in the centre of Gloucester.
Who will be blogging? Everyone connected with the project. You might see some people come by a bit more often. Jess, Nicola and Jenine are the project team and will have lots of stories to share. Peter, the Churchwarden, will share some of his incredible knowledge acquired while working at the church for over 50 years; Nikki, rector of St Mary de Crypt is obviously an indispensable voice and force behind this project; Andy, our site manager, and Jonah, our architect, might be some of the names you will see repeatedly. And then there are the many many people who volunteer, visit events or work on the project in other roles. We will try to show you the project from all angles.
If you have a link with the project or Church and Schoolroom and like to write – please let us know!
